Prong Settings:
The Prong
Setting is by far the most popular of the setting styles. The diamond
or diamonds are held securely in place by either two (shared prong),
four, or six metal prongs. These prongs raise the diamond up off of
the finger and into the air, allowing the maximum amount of light to
reach the diamond. Allowing light to shine up through the culet of
the diamond (bottom portion, pointed tip of the diamond) through the
diamond and out the top (table, flat top of the diamond) will allow
the diamond the maximum amount of sparkle and brilliance.
The four or
six prong diamond setting is the most recommended and most preferred
way to set a diamond, both for aesthetic purposes as well as
security/safety settings.

Far less
expensive than settings with multiple diamonds set in to the band.
Prong settings usually run $150.00 in white gold and $450.00 in platinum.*

Considerations for Prong Settings:

high off the finger; the prong setting not recommended for athletic
or extremely active women.
Taditional
Solitaire Setting:
The
Traditional Solitaire Setting has four or six metal prongs holding
the diamond securely in place while allowing light to shine up
through the diamond to maximize sparkle. Contrary to popular belief,
the four prong setting is equally secure as a six prong setting.
Selecting a four prong solitaire setting or a six prong solitaire
setting is purely a matter of visual preference.
