Amethyst:
The Amethyst is a quartz, too. So the chemical formula is SiO2. The
density is 2.65 g/cm3. But we find a little bit of iron and manganese
in the amethyst so he is violet. In comparison the color makes the
amethyst more beautiful. The color is very interesting in connection
with the form of the crystal. The hardness is 7, because it is a
quartz. The crystal system is trigonal. Today Amethysts are slide in
the facett slide or in the brilliant slide. When we give the amethyst
into fire he will become yellow and then this quartz is called
Citrine. Smoke quartz for example is brown because of radioactivity.
If you want to know more about radioactivity look at the homepage of
nuclear physics. We can find the Amethyst in Brazil and in Urugway.
Often we find the Amethyst in geodes. 3,000 B. C. in Egypt and in
anterior Asia there were made jewels of Amethyst. In former times
people thought that Amethyst has got positive effects.
